Drop Off & Pick Up – FAQs

Manningham United FC | MiniRoos & Junior Football

Manningham United FC requires parents or guardians to remain present and responsible for their child at all trainings, games, tournaments, and club activities, as coaches and team managers are volunteers responsible only for on-field football activities. These FAQs reinforce shared responsibility for child safety, clear pick-up arrangements, respectful check-in/check-out behaviours, and a community culture that supports volunteers and keeps children safe.

General Expectations

Q: If my child is under the age of 16, may I drop them off and pick them up at the end?

A: No. Regardless of the presence of coaches, team managers, or game leaders, a parent or guardian must remain at the venue at all times during training sessions, games, tournaments, and club activities, unless a prior personal agreement (family association) has been made.

Q: Why does the club require parents or guardians to stay?

A: Manningham United operates through volunteers. Coaches and team managers are responsible for football delivery, not general child supervision. Parent presence ensures:

  • Child safety and wellbeing
  • Support for volunteer coaches and team managers
  • Shared responsibility consistent with a community club

Training Sessions

Q: Can I leave once training has started and return at the end?

A: No. Parents or guardians are expected to remain at the venue for the entire training session. Coaches cannot supervise children before training, during breaks, or after training concludes.

Q: What happens when my child is on the training pitch?

A: While a player is on the pitch, the coaching team is responsible for the child within the context of football activities only (drills, rotations, and on-field safety).

Parents or guardians must:

  • Remain present and contactable
  • Be ready to step in if their child needs to leave the pitch for any reason

Coaches cannot provide off-pitch supervision, personal care, or one-on-one support beyond football activities.

Q: What if my child can't find me after training?

A: In the event that you have spoken with your Team Manager or Coach to indicate you will be leaving the grounds, please plan to arrive back on time. Once training finishes, responsibility immediately returns to the parent or guardian. Repeated late pickups place unfair pressure on volunteers and may be escalated to the club.

Match Days (Home & Away)

Q: Do I need to stay for games?

A: Yes. Parents or guardians must remain present for the entire match, including warm-ups and post-game activities.

Q: What happens when my child is on the pitch during a game?

A: When a player is on the pitch, responsibility lies with the coaching team and match-day officials for the duration of football participation.

Parents or guardians must remain available to:

  • Take responsibility if their child leaves the pitch
  • Attend to injuries requiring care beyond basic first aid
  • Support their child if they are distressed, unwell, or need toileting
  • Collect their child if they are unable to continue or are removed from the pitch

Coaches and officials are not responsible for off-pitch supervision.

Pick Up Arrangements & Authorised Persons

Q: Who is responsible for telling the club who can and cannot pick up my child?

A: It is the parent or guardian's responsibility to clearly inform the team manager and the club if their child must not be picked up by certain individuals.

This information must be:

  • Communicated in advance
  • Kept up to date
  • Provided in writing where possible

Coaches and team managers cannot enforce restrictions they are not aware of.

Tournaments & Gala Days

Q: Can I drop my child off for tournaments or gala days?

A: No. Tournaments often involve long days, schedule changes, and extended breaks. Parents or guardians must remain onsite and available throughout the event.

Q: Who supervises children between matches at tournaments?

A: Parents or guardians. Coaches and team managers are focused on match preparation and player welfare on the pitch and cannot supervise players during downtime.

Coaches, Team Managers & Supervision

Q: Are coaches or team managers responsible for my child once they arrive?

A: No. Coaches and team managers:

  • Are volunteers
  • Are not childcare providers
  • Are responsible only for football-related activities while players are on the pitch

Supervision outside football participation remains the responsibility of parents or guardians.

Respect, Check-In & Check-Out Culture

Q: What are the expectations when players arrive and leave?

A: At Manningham United, we expect all players to:

  • Appropriately greet their coach (for example, a handshake or verbal greeting) when arriving as a sign of checking in
  • Say goodbye to their coach at the end of training or games to clearly indicate they are leaving the coach's care

This helps reinforce:

  • Clear communication
  • Respect and accountability
  • A safe and positive environment

We expect all Manningham United players to show respect towards their peers, coaches, officials, and volunteers at all times.

Q: What if we're running late to training or a game, or can't attend at short notice?

A: We understand that life happens. If you are running late or your child cannot attend, please notify the coach or team manager as soon as possible via the Stack Team App. Coaches volunteer their time and put significant effort into planning sessions, rotations, and match-day logistics, so late arrivals or no-shows without notice can be disruptive and may be perceived as disrespectful. Clear and timely communication helps us plan well and respect everyone's time.

Personal Agreements (Family Associations)

Q: What is a "personal agreement" or "family association"?

A: This is a private arrangement between families, such as one parent agreeing to supervise another child. These arrangements:

  • Are not organised or endorsed by the club
  • Must be clearly agreed in advance
  • Do not involve coaches or team managers

Our Community Club Approach

Q: What does Manningham United expect from families?

A: We ask families to:

  • Stay present and engaged
  • Communicate clearly with the club
  • Support volunteers
  • Share responsibility for child safety
  • Help build a respectful, inclusive football community

Q: What happens if these expectations are not followed?

A: The club may:

  • Clarify expectations with families
  • Escalate concerns to age coordinators or committee members
  • Take further action if child safety or volunteer wellbeing is impacted
